Jay Bolsega, AIA
Well-thought-through design, visualization and project management that meet or surpass expectations
“Architecture serves distinct purposes or functions, and at the same time has tremendous potential to positively impact our lives and experiences.”
Jay Bolsega’s portfolio can be found all around Austin and the Texas Hill Country. With a broad range of experience and capabilities including conceptual design and site planning to construction detailing, Jay has managed projects that include custom residential, multifamily and civic structures.
Jay grew up outside of Chicago and visited the great museums and zoos there as a child. His first inspiration, in fact, was on the steps of the Museum of Science and Industry. “I could tell something was going on in the architecture of the museum,” he recalls. “Years later I learned that the building was part of the ‘White City’ from the World’s Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893.”
Beyond the basic purpose or function of the structures he designs, Jay instills each project with a character or presence that identifies itself uniquely within its environment. “I am most excited when I am creating solutions that are uniquely expressive or that incite some emotion,” he says.
Memorable Project: Jones Residence
“This home was an enjoyable challenge, set up to follow the crest of a hill overlooking really spectacular views.”
After Hours…
Jay is the musician of the Element 5 team. A bluesman on the guitar and a jazzer on the flute, Jay closely follows the Austin music scene and will happily offer recommendations to anyone interested in finding out more about the city’s homegrown talent.
