Austin Architect - Richard Hughes

Austin Architect : Richard Hughes

Residential historical restoration through new construction

“I am most excited about projects that are close collaborations between architect, owner and builder from the very beginning, and that result in a logical, cost effective and beautiful architectural solution that all can take pride in.”

Richard’s projects combine architectural traditions with contemporary building techniques and consider local site and climate conditions.  The results are structures that integrate traditional architectural principles with modern innovations to accommodate contemporary lifestyles.

Richard works closely with clients to interpret their personal needs and objectives.  His carefully considered designs maximize the features of each site to create functional and beautiful living spaces, both indoors and out.
Originally from Rhode Island, Richard spent his early career on the East Coast before coming to Austin. This experience contributes to his strong grounding in historic architecture.

Memorable Project: Shelley Avenue Residence
“The project was an exciting renovation in that it added a modern complement to an historic Austin home without losing the original Victorian architecture.  The result is a great expression of my passion for historic restoration through new construction.”

After Hours…
Richard is the father of a son and a daughter, both of whom are in their teens. Which is to say that his home life is an active one.
